Welcome to Orem, Ann!

And I do know Mike Rose from Eagle River! Small world!

My wife does a lot of experimenting with baking at this altitude. I'll ask her about the recipe, but I'll warn you, she probably doesn't feel like it is "done" yet.

Yes, it's successful (and yummy), but I don't think she is totally satisfied yet.

At any rate, if she isn't comfortable posting her work in progress here on the blog, hopefully you won't mind us contacting you via email and she can let you know what she's got so far.

9/5/08
I just moved to Orem, UT - and doing a google search for what you do differently to compensate for the altitude. You say you have an answer - but no recipe to share!

Also - do you know Mike and Beverley Rose for Eagle River?

John, nice to hear from you! Nicky was VERY pleased you wrote, which helps offset our displeasure at learning you were in Utah and didn't call or stop by! ;-)

Do you have plans to be out here again?

Nicky would like to steal a look at your recipe books -- especially if we are near our photocopier.

I too discovered that I had to make a lot of recipe modifications when we moved to Utah (maybe not so unusually growing up with 5 sisters, I actually do all the more complicated recipes when it comes to cooking rather than Noelle - especially when it comes to desserts, though your creations are clearly well beyond mine)

Even simple things like dough mixtures for breads and pizza bases had to be modified.

I too was astounded that so many 'Utahns' cheat at their cake and cookie mixtures.

I now have 3 hand written recipe books, 1 for the UK, 1 for France, and 1 for The Rocky Mountains - with modifications not only to quantities, but also available ingredients in each location :)
